إزرا لوميس باوند Ezra Loomis Pound أديب وشاعر أمريكي ولد في مدينة هيلي Hailey في ولاية أيداهوIdaho في الغرب الأمريكي، لكنه لم يبق هناك مدة طويلة، إذ رحل والداه به إلى ولاية بنسلفانيا Pennsylvania حيث بدأ دراسته، ولما بلغ الخامسة عشرة من عمره انتسب إلى جامعتها، وفي العام التالي بدأ دراسة الأدب المقارن، وحصل على درجته الجامعية الأولى في كلية هاملتون في مدينة كلينتون Clinton، عاد بعدها إلى جامعة بنسلفانيا وحصل فيها على درجة الماجستير عام 1906. عمل مدرساً بعض الوقت في الجامعة نفسها ثم شد الرحال إلى أوربا لمدة وجيزة عاد بعدها إلى أمريكا ليبدأ عمله محاضراً فيكلية واباش في ولاية انديانا، غير حتى هذا لم يستمر طويلاً إذ إنه عاد إلى أوربا عام 1907، وبقي هناك معظم حياته عدا السنين التي قضاها في السجن بعد اتهامه بالموالاة للفاشية.

أصدر باوند أول ديوان شعري له «النور المطفأ» (1908) A Lume Spento في البندقية واستقر بعد ذلك في لندن حتى عام 1920. وتعهد الشاعر الإيرلندي ييتس Yeats، وانضم إلى جماعته الأدبية، لكن بمرور الوقت تجمعت حوله نخبة من الأدباء، وصارت له جماعته الخاصة. صدر ديوانه الثاني «شخصيات» Personae في لندن عام 1909، ولقي ترحيباً من النقاد وازدادت شهرته بين أدباء الطليعة. وفي عام 1914 نشر ديواناً شعرياً سماه «الصوْريون» Des Imagistes يحتوي مجموعة من القصائد التي أعربت بدء الحركة الصوْرية Imagism في إنجلترا وأمريكا. وبقي باوند حامل الراية لهذه الحركة حتى أخذتها منه الشاعرة إيمي لويل Amy Lowell فتحول بعيداً عن هذا الاتجاه الشعري. وتظهر عوامل هذا التحول في قصيدته «لسترا» (1916) Lustra إذ بدا أسلوبه أكثر نضجاً. وبدأ باستخدام مصطلح «الدوَّامية» Vorticism ليصف به تأثيراً شعرياً يعتمد على شكل من الهجريز مع جعل القصيدة تحوي حركة كالدوار يمور بالحيوية التي تفتقر إليها الصورية.
أنتج باوند في هذه الفترة عدة ترجمات لشعراء إيطاليين وصينيين، ثم صدر له أبرز عمل في هذه الفترة تحت عنوان «هيوسلوين موبرلي» Hugh Selwyn Mauberley، وهي قصيدة طويلة تتألف من عدة مقاطع تتصف بالغموض وتتضمن إشارات واقتباسات من أعمال أخرى. وكان لهذه القصيدة تأثير كبير في عدد من الشعراء منهم ت.س إليوت[ر] T.S.Eliot في قصيدته «الأرض اليباب» The Waste Land. انتقل باوند إلى باريس عام 1921 ومكث فيها حتى عام 1924 وصاحب هناك زمرة الكتاب المغتربين الذين جعلوا من باريس مهجرهم أمثال إرنست همنغواي[ر] وجيمس جويس، وعمل على مساعدة كثير من هؤلاء الكتاب بنشر أعمالهم أولفت النظر إليها.
رحل باوند عن باريس إلى رابالوعلى الريفيرا الإيطالية، وبقي هناك عقدين من الزمن. وفي إيطالية نشر عام 1925 أول مجموعة من «الأغاني» Cantos. ثم نشر عام 1935 كتاب «جيفرسون و/ أوموسوليني» Jefferson and/or Mussolini. ومع بدايات الحرب العالمية الثانية بدأ يذيع تعليقات من الإذاعة الإيطالية يهاجم فيها أمريكا، وترتب على ذلك توجيه تهمة الخيانة إليه، وصدر بحقه حكم غيابي، وهذا مانادىه لتسليم نفسه إلى القوات الأمريكية عند وصولها إلى إيطاليا، وسجن قرب مدينة بيزا حتى رُحِّل إلى أمريكا. ومع ماعاناه في سجنه فقد أنجز كتابة مسودة «أغاني بيزا» The Pisan Cantos التي نشرت عام 1948. وحين أعيد إلى أمريكة أجري له فحص طبي فزعمت اللجنة الفاحصة أنه مختل العقل، ووضع في مصح للأمراض العقلية قرب مدينة واشنطن. لكن عمله الشعري نال جائزة بولنغن Bollingen عام 1949، وهي جائزة أدبية تمنح بإشراف مخطة الكونجرس الأمريكي، فأثار هذا التكريم ضجة كبيرة، لكن لجنة التحكيم التي تألفت من إليوت وأودن Auden وآلن تيت Allen Tate وروبرت بن وارن Robert Penn Warren وكاثرين آن بورتر Katherine Anne Porter دافعت عن قرارها إعطاء الجائزة لشخص مختل عقلياً ومتهم بالخيانة بأن إدخال أمور خارجة عن الشعر نفسه يضعف الجائزة. وبقي باوند مصدر حرج للحكومة الأمريكية حتى أفرج عنه عام 1958 بعد تدخل أصدقائه. ورحل فوراً إلى إيطاليا، ولم يغادرها إلا لحضور مراسم دفن صديقه إليوت. وتوفي باوند في مدينة البندقية.
== كانت نظرة باوند إلى الفن عاملاً أثَّر في الكثير من شعراء القرن العشرين. نطق في رسالة مشهورة لوليم كارلوس وليامز William Carlos Williams «الفن السيئ يقدم تقارير مزورة... علينا حتى نحاول إقناع الإنسان العادي حتى الفن السيئ غير أخلاقي، وأن الفن الجيد مهما بدا غير أخلاقي فهوينبع من الفضيلة». ويتضح تأثير باوند في حركة الحداثة في الشعر، وقد نطق إليوت عنه إنه أكثر شعراء اللغة الإنجليزية أهمية في القرن العشرين. أما آلان تيت فقد نطق عن «الأغاني» إنها واحدة من أفضل ثلاثة أعمال شعرية في العصر الحديث. ويتفق النقاد على حتى شعره مرشد واضح على اتساع معهدته التي يلمسها القارئ بعد قراءة القليل منه، كما أنهم يتفقون على أصالته وقدرته الفكرية البارزة ورسوخ معهدته التقنية الشعرية.
يستخدم باوند في شعره معهدته للتاريخ الأدبي والشعر الأنغلوسكسوني والفرنسي والإيطالي واللاتيني والصيني وأهم اللغات المعاصرة. وفي «الأغاني» يلاحظ القارئ الإشارات والإحالات والاستخدامات المعقدة لمئات من الأعمال الأدبية، فهويستخدم أعمال هوميروس وأعمال دانتي والشعر الصيني كما يستخدم شعر براوننگ[ر] ليبني الشكل الأساسي لديوانه «شخصيات».
كان باوند مهتماً بالحرية الشخصية ومناوئاً لمبدأ الربا، إذ رأى حتى الرأسمالية والبنوك أساس الشر في المجتمع وأول مظاهر انحداره، وأوضح ذلك بأمثلة من التاريخ الإغريقي وتاريخ إيطاليا في العصور الوسطى، ولم يفتأ باوند يحذّر من الرأسمالية الحديثة واليهودية العالمية. كذلك اهتم باوند بالناس وتصرفاتهم، وبلغ هذا الاهتمام ذروته في قصيدته «هيوسلوين موبرلي». ويتحدث في بداية عمله الرئيس «الأغاني» عن عصر النهضة، وفي الجزء التالي عن التاريخ الإيطالي والأمريكي والصيني، وتحدث بعد ذلك عن حياته الخاصة في «أغاني بيزا». ومايزال باوند يحتل مركزاً مهماً في تاريخ الشعر الحديث إذ يعده النقاد واحداً من أكثر المواهب إبداعاً في القرن العشرين.
