كتاب العناصر لإقليدس (بالإغريقية Στοιχεῖα) هي مجموعة رسائل وأبحاث في الهندسة الرياضية والرياضيات تتكون من 13 كتاباً قام بكتابتها الرياضياتي الإغريقي إقليدس في الإسكندرية عام 300 ق م.تصف هذه المجموعة عدد من البديهيات الرياضية والتعاريف والمبرهنات، والإنشاءات والبراهين. تغطي الخط الثلاث عشرة مواضع الهندسة الإقليدية والنسخة القديمة من نظرية الأعداد الابتدائية. يعد كتاب العناصر من أقد خط الرياضيات الإغريقية بعد كتاب اوتوليكوس عن الكرة المتحركة Autolycus' On the Moving Sphere، ويعد كتاب العناصر من أبرز الخط التي ساهمت في تطور المنطق والعلوم الحديثة.

تم طباعة كتاب العناصر للمرة الأولى في البندقية عام 1482، وكان من أوائل الخط في الرياضيات التي تمت طباعتها بعد اختراع الطباعة.

تاريخ

A proof from Euclid's Elements that, given a line segment, an equilateral triangle exists that includes the segment as one of its sides. The proof is by construction: an equilateral triangle ΑΒΓ is made by drawing circles Δ and Ε centered on the points Α and Β, and taking one intersection of the circles as the third vertex of the triangle.

محتويات الخط

يتضمّن هذا الكتاب عدة مواضيع منها : العلاقات المتعدية، النظرية الفيثاغورية، الهويّات جبرية، الدوائر، الظلال والأجسام السليمة ، الهندسة المستوية، نظرية الأبعادِ، الأرقام الصماء، الأعداد المثالية، الأعداد السليمةِ الموجبةِ

كما ويذكر فيه إقليدس المسلّمات والبديهيات الخمس لخمس بديهات هي: 1-الأمور المساوية لشيء واحد متساوية فيما بينها. 2-إذا أضيفت كميات متساوية إلى أخرى متساوية تكون النتائج متساوية 3-إذا طرحت مقادير متساويةمن أخرى متساوية تكون البواقي متساوية. 4-الأمور المتطابقة متساوية. 5-الكل أكبر من جزئه.

الخمس مسلمات هي: 1-يمكن الوصول بين أي نقطتين بخط مستقيم. 2-يمكن أعطى الخط المستقيم من طرفيه إلى غير حد. 3-يمكن رسم الدائرة إذا فهم مركزها ونصف قطرها. 4-جميع الزوايا القوائم متساوية. 5-إذا بتر مستقيمان بمستقيم ثالث بحيثقد يكون مجموع الزاويتين الداخلتين الواقعتين على جهة واحدة من القاطع أقل من قائمتين فإن المستقيمين يتلاقيان من تلك الجهة من القاطع إذا مدا إلى غير حد.

طريقة إقليدس وأسلوب العرض

يعدّ هذا الكتاب الحجر الأساس لفهم الهندسة وظلّ لأكثر من 2000 سنة يعتبر قاعدة فهم الهندسة. وضع إقليدس كتاب العناصر الذي ألفه حوالي عام 300 قبل الميلاد وقد جمع فيه جميع معارف البشر المتاحة له حتى زمانه في العلوم الرياضية وشرحها وصاغها بإسلوب منطقي رائع كما سد الثغرات في الكثير من تلك المعارف الهندسية.وضع إقليدس عدد كبيرا من التعاريف المتعلقة بالموضوعات الهندسية، ترجمه إسحاق بن حنين في العصر العباسي واشتغل عليه الخوارزمي وبن الهيثم وغيرهم.
